Health Protection Agency HPA has reported 57 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Friday.

In its daily update, HPA said that 34 of the 57 new cases came from inhabited islands and said that 22 new cases were reported from the Greater Male Area.

HPA reported just one case from the operational resorts in the Maldives.

The Agency said that 2,940 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and of that 1,073 were from the Greater Male' Area and that the capital cities COVID positivity rate was at 2 percent.

HPA said that there are 1,548 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 24 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

It also said that 83,074 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives.

The COVID-19 pandemic has killed 231 individuals in the Maldives with mostly elderly locals succumbing to the global pandemic.

HPA had also said that the total positives include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not related to COVID-19.
