Police say two men who were arrested for allegedly attacking MP for Kaashidhoo Constitieuncy Abdullah Jabir have been remanded in police custody for another 7 days.

MP Jabir was attacked by a mob of youth on his visit to Alifu Alifu Atoll Mathiveri last week and police had arrested two men last Wednesday.

A media official from Police had said to "The Press" that in the remand hearing held on Thursday, the pair were remanded in police custody for another 7 days.

Police had said earlier that a 42-year-old man and a 19-year-old man were arrested from Mathiveri following the attack against Jabir and that they were arrested under a court order.

Police are set to be still investigating the incident.

MP Jabir met with a hostile crowd from the island upon his visit to Mathiveri on the 21st of this month. Reports have said that many on the island were angry about a land plot leased to MP Jabir for 50 years under the authority of former Tourism Minister Ali Waheed.
