Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 61 new cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives as the numbers go back down after two consecutive days with daily numbers above 100.

The Agency said that out of the new cases 29 were reported from the Greater Male Area while 24 new cases were confirmed from the inhabited islands.

HPA also reported 8 new cases from operational resorts across the country.

It said that with these new cases, the number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country since March 2020 has now reached a staggering 84,164.

HPA had also reported 101 recoveries yesterday, taking the total recoveries to 82,309.

The Agency had said that there are 1,612 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now and that 16 of the COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 230 individuals in the Maldives since April 2020, with the latest death coming yesterday.

On Friday, HPA had said that a 46-year-old local woman admitted at Hulhumale Medical Facility has passed away due to the illness and that she was the 230th death reported in the country.
