Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has surpassed 83,500 on Sunday.

Yesterday, the Agency had reported another 82 new cases of COVID-19 in the country and had said that these include 29 new cases from the Greater Male' Area as well as another 47 from the inhabited islands across the country.

HPA also confirmed 6 new cases from the operational resorts in the country.

These new cases take the total COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives since March 2020 to a staggering 83,576.

However, HPA has now reported 81,671 recoveries which leave 1,663 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now.

The Agency had also said that 21 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 229 people in the Maldives. Most of those who have succumbed to the illness include elderly locals with underlying health conditions. But few young people have also died from the pandemic in the Maldives including a 10-year-old girl who passed away due to COVID-19 earlier this year.

HPA had also said that the total cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly related to COVID-19.
