Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the total number of COVID cases reported in the Maldives has now reached 83,332.

The Agency said yesterday that 84 new cases were reported on Friday and that this includes 37 new cases from the Greater Male' Area as well as 37 new cases from the inhabited islands.

HPA also confirmed 9 new cases from operational resorts and 1 case of COVID-19 from a safari.

Although a total of 83,332 cases of COVID-19 has been reported in the Maldives, HPA had said that 81,404 people have since recovered from the illness.

The Agency also said that there are 1,686 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and that 18 COVID patients are hospitalized for further treatment.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has claimed the lives of 229 people in the Maldives and the latest death came yesterday.

HPA had said that yesterday at 01:28 pm an 87-year-old local man admitted at Hulhumale' Medical Facility had passed away due to COVID-19.

The Agency had also mentioned that total cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19
