First Lady Fazna Ahmed has, this morning, visited Shaviyani Atoll Foakaidhoo School, taking a tour of the premises and interacting with students and teachers from both sessions.

The First Lady gifted two books to the school, about anti-bullying and sexual harassment awareness. She also read the book about bullying out loud for the students.

She also spoke to the students about the importance of learning and being literate, noting that we mark International Literacy Day today on September 8th.

Speaking with the teachers, First Lady Fazna discussed how to better educate students about negative societal influences and habits and how to provide career guidance for their students.

School authorities stated during the meeting that they were currently suffering infrastructure shortages and are therefore holding classes in two sessions.

They did, however, express their gratitude for the ongoing construction project for 12 additional classrooms, saying that it would address these challenges once completed. They also said that once the additional classrooms are available, the challenges and concerns in conducting SEN Classes would also be addressed.

Foakaidhoo School currently has 471 students between Nursery and Grade 12. A multi-purpose hall is also being added to the school premises under the government’s goal to advance the education sector through decentralized development.

The First Couple took a tour of the area under construction to build the 12 classrooms and multi-purpose hall earlier in the morning.

Foakaidhoo Island is the third destination in the President and First Lady’s ongoing three-day trip to 8 islands in Shaviyani Atoll and Raa Atoll. Cabinet ministers, senior executives from the President’s Office, and a delegation of high-level government officials accompany the President and First Lady on this trip.
