Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam has evaded questions put to him by the members of the Parliament regarding the airport government plans to build in Raa Atoll Alifushi.
The Minister was summoned to the parliament floor today to answer questions posed by MP for Kandithummu Abdullah Shaheem Abdul Hakeem. The MP had asked questions regarding the delay in the water and sewerage projects currently underway in some of the islands across the country.
After the Minister had answered these queries, other MPs had posed questions to the Minister regarding other areas including the recently announced airport project in Alifushi.
MP for Maduvari Constituency Adam Shareef Umar had noted that planning to suddenly build an airport that was not included in the budget for the island could pose problems for the inhabitants of the island.
He asked the Minister to clarify what the people of Alifushi thought of the airport project.
When given the chance to answer, Minister Aslam had evaded the questions. Aslam said that he was informed about his summon to the parliament yesterday afternoon and that only gave him time to gather information about today's official inquiries.
He added that it was difficult to answer questions on other matters at this time.
The Government had signed a contract with MTCC for the land reclamation and airport development in Alifushi earlier this month.
The project valued at MVR 451.61 million is the largest project awarded to MTCC by the government.
