Health Protection Agency HPA says 23 islands across the country are currently under monitoring due to COVID-19 cases reported on the islands.
HPA has confirmed that two additional islands were placed under monitoring to prevent the further spread of the illness in the country.
The Agency had said that these islands are Holhumeedhoo of Seenu Atoll and Rasmaadhoo of Raa Atoll.
Speaking to "The Press", Hulhumeedhoo Council Member Hussain Faiz Rahman said that island has been reporting COVID cases for over a week. He said that the island was placed under monitoring because of the increase in the number of COVID cases in the last few days.
Meanwhile, Rasmaadhoo Health Center had said that the island was placed under monitoring after a flu sample taken on the 2nd of this month from the island had tested positive for COVID-19.
The Health Center urged the inhabitants of the island to take precautions and to obey HPA guidelines to avoid the further spread of the virus.
Out of the 23 islands currently under monitoring, Raa Atoll Dhuvaafaru is the island placed under monitoring on the earliest date with it falling under public health scrutiny on the 25th of May.
Other islands include Kaafu Gaafaru Shaviyani Milandhoo, and L. Mundoo.
