Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 189 new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic here in the Maldives as the daily cases reported in the country continue to rise.
HPA said in its daily update that out of the 189 new cases reported yesterday, 119 new cases were confirmed from the inhabited islands while 35 new cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area.
The Agency added that 35 new cases were confirmed from operational resorts across the country.
HPA had said that with the new cases the number of COVID cases reported in the Maldives has now risen to 81,301 since March 2020.
It said that there are currently 1,794 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that 24 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
HPA added that 79,268 people have now recovered from the illness in the country.
The global pandemic which crippled the whole world last year has killed 226 people in the Maldives and most of those who died are elderly locals with underlying medical conditions.
HPA had also said that the total cases include 13 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19
