Police have begun their investigation after a man threatened to hijack a plane from the national carrier Maldivian.
Police said that they had received such a complaint last night and that a man had allegedly threatened to hijack a Maldivian flight bound to Male' from Fuvamulah city.
The law enforcement agency said that no arrests have yet been in relation to the threat.
Police added that it was actively investigating the alleged threat.
Security agencies remain vigilant of any threats to the country's security after the failed assassination attempt against the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed earlier this year.
Police along with Maldives National Defense Force MNDF has held several operations to apprehend known suspects of terrorism and extremism.
Earlier this week, MNDF's bomb Squad was deployed to the Ministry of Tourism in the Velaanage building after the office received a mysterious package.
MNDF soldiers had cleared the package as harmless but warned government offices not to accept such mysterious packages from unknown senders.
