Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed says police in cooperation with Maldives Correctional Services have foiled an attempt to smuggle contraband into Maafushi Jail.

In a tweet, CP Hameed said that In a joint operation conducted early this morning by police intelligence, local police in Maafushi along with officers from Maldives Correctional Services intercepted and arrested an individual on the shore of Maafushi.

Hameed said that the man was arrested while attempting to smuggle a stash of contraband into the prison compound.

The Commissioner detailed the contraband confiscated in the operation and said that it included 50 smartphones, 42 feature phones, 109 phone chargers, 77 USB cables, 65 headsets, 49 Dhiraagu SIM cards, 12 Ooredoo SIM cards, 2 packs of cutter blades, 10 Miswak (Iraak sticks) and other items.

Police and Maldives Correctional Forces join hands to successfully conduct such operations and have seized many contrabands that were bound for Maafushi jail on several occasions.
