HPA said in its update that 27 of the new cases were reported from the Greater Male' Area while 96 new cases were confirmed from the inhabited islands. The Agency also reported 16 new cases from operational resorts across the country.

This has taken the total number of cases to 80,678 in the Maldives since March 2020.

HPA had said that 78,757 people have recovered from the illness and that 1,683 remained as active cases of the pandemic. The Agency added that 11 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

The global pandemic has claimed 226 lives here in the Maldives and this mostly includes elderly locals with underlying health issues. But few young people have also succumbed to the illness in the country including a 10-year-old girl earlier this year.

HPA had said that total cases include 13 positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
