Police are investigating complaints regarding fake bookings given to tourists who visit the country.
Police said that it had received several complaints about such booking scams and that they were now actively investigating these cases.
But the Police did not give any more information regarding the probe including how many such cases they were investigating.
This comes amid social media reports that the Economic Crime Unit at the Police was investigating fake booking incidents involving two police officers.
The reports also said that these cases included an airport customs officer as well.
Over the last few weeks, such incidents have increased in the country and recently authorities provided assistance to a group of foreigners who had fallen to such a scam.
Authorities have said that 27 people including women and children were left stranded on the streets of Male' after their travel agent had made fake bookings for their lodging.
Maldivian authorities had arrested a foreigner in relation to the case in a joint operation.
