Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 110 new cases of the COVID-19 pandemic here in the Maldives on Wednesday.

The Agency said via Twitter that out of the 110 new cases reported yesterday, 72 cases were from the inhabited islands while 25 new cases of COVID-19 were reported from the Greater Male Area.

HPA also confirmed 13 cases of COVID-19 from the resorts.

The new cases take the total number of cases reported from the island nation to 78,578 since March of 2020 when the pandemic first hit its shores.

HPA had said that there are 2,562 active cases of the pandemic here in the Maldives right now and that 19 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.

HPA had said that 75,778 people have recovered from the fast-spreading illness.

The global pandemic has killed 222 people in the country with mostly elderly locals with underlying health conditions succumbing to the illness in the country.

HPA had also said that the total number of COVID-19 cases includes 12 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
