Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali says the COVID vaccination program designed for students is set to begin this week.
She said this during the press conference held today to discuss the new academic year that is set to begin this Tuesday.
Dr. Aishath Ali said that the ministry was working with Health Protection Agency HPA to iron out all the details of the vaccination program for the students.
She said that this vaccination program will begin this week.
Also speaking at the press conference, Director General at the Ministry Aminath Azza said that the ministry has now begun work to determine all the students who are eligible for vaccination.
She also said that the Ministry was coordinating with HPA to give information regarding the program to parents and that health centers in the islands would be providing the information sessions.
Public Health officials in the Maldives had said that children between the ages of 12 to 17 would be receiving the Pfizer vaccine to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials are currently working with the Ministry to determine those children who would be receiving the vaccines and that they are currently expediting the process.
The Spokesperson at the Health Emergency Operations Center Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq had said that students would be vaccinated through the schools and that the schools would make the arrangements to bring the students to the vaccination centers.
