Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 125 new cases in the Maldives on Tuesday taking the total number of cases beyond 77,750.
HPA said yesterday that out of the 125 new cases reported, 26 came from the Greater Male' Area and that 91 new cases were reported from the inhabited islands. HPA added that 8 new cases of COVID-19 were reported from operational resorts yesterday.
The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives to a staggering 77,758, although 75,022 people have since recovered from the illness in the country.
The Agency had said that 2,459 people remained as active cases of the pandemic across the country and that 16 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
The global pandemic has killed 222 people in the Maldives with the most recent death coming yesterday.
HPA had said that yesterday at 09:00 am a 94-year-old local man was brought to Gn. Fuamulak Atoll Hospital was declared dead and that he had died of COVID-19.
The Agency had also said that the total number of cases include 12 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19
