Health Protection Agency HPA has reported the lowest daily COVID numbers in months on Friday as the country looks to recover from the devastating wave of the pandemic.

The Agency said that yesterday a total of 55 people tested positive for COVID and that this was from 4,580 samples taken within the last 24 hours.

HPA said out of the new cases, 25 were reported from the Greater Male' Area while another 20 were confirmed from inhabited islands. HPA also said that 10 new cases were confirmed from operational resorts across the country.

The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to 74,903 with 71.877 recoveries reported since March 2020.

HPA said that the number of active cases has now dropped to 2,801 in the country with 26 COVID-19 patients still hospitalized for further treatment.

The global pandemic has claimed 213 deaths in the Maldives since April 2020 but HPA had reported only 2 deaths so far this month.

Last month HPA had reported 60 COVID-19 deaths as the country fought the third wave of the global pandemic. But the month of May remains the month with the highest COVID fatalities with 88 deaths reported that month.
