Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed 372 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the daily number increased after dropping in the last few days.

HPA said via Twitter that out of the 372 new cases recorded today, 125 were reported from the Greater Male' Area and that 215 new cases were reported from inhabited islands.

HPA also confirmed 30 cases from operational resorts while it had reported 1 case from a safari and another case from an industrial island.

This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country to 70,673 since March 2020.

HPA had confirmed that 992 people had recovered from the illness in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 61,761.

The Agency noted that 8,703 remain as active cases in the country and that the number of hospitalized COVID patients has dropped to 82.

These are significant drops as the number of active cases was at 24,034 while 208 COVID-19 patients had been admitted at hospitals.

On Monday HPA had initially reported two COVID-19 deaths including that of a 55-year-old woman admitted at DH11 of Dharumavantha hospital.

But HPA had said that after further assessment, it has been determined that the immediate cause of death in this patient is not Covid-19 and that this is therefore not a Covid death.

HPA had later confirmed the death of a 27-year-old local man admitted at Hulhumale Medical Facility and had said that this had taken the death toll reported in the country 198.
