Health Protection Agency HPA says a 55-year-old had died from COVID-19 in the Maldives today.

The Agency confirmed via Twitter that the 55-year-old woman had been admitted at the 11th floor of Dharumavantha hospital and that she had passed away at 11:19 am today.

HPA confirmed that this is the 198th COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives since April 2020.

The Agency had reported a total of 37 COVID deaths in the country.

But last month remains the month with the highest COVID fatalities in the country as HPA reported 88 COVID deaths in the Maldives in May.

Meanwhile, yesterday HPA had reported another 224 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the number of daily positives keeps on declining.

HPA had said that out of the new cases reported yesterday, 113 were from the greater Male Area and that 104 were from inhabited islands. HPA had also confirmed 7 cases from operational resorts in the country.

This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the island nation to 70,301 with 60,769 recoveries.

HPA had said that active cases have now dropped to 9,326 and that there are 88 COVID patients admitted at hospitals write now.
