Police have arrested a man who is being accused of sexually abusing a minor under the state's care at the Kudhinge Hiya Orphanage in Villimale.
Speaking to "The Press", a media official at Police said that the man was arrested last Saturday.
Police had said that he is a 25-year-old man and that the Criminal Court had decided to remand him in custody for 15 more days.
The police official further said that the child in question had been reported missing and was discovered with the accused. Police also said that the accused man does not work at the orphanage.
Police had also accused him of grooming the child and also sexually abusing the minor.
The alleged child sex offender had denied the accusations against him at his remand hearing. The man had said that he had not abused the child as police have accused and staff at the orphanage does know that the child likes to visit him at home.
Police had said that the accused had previous criminal records related to substance abuse and assault.
