Health Protection Agency HPA says that the number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country has now passed 69,000.

HPA said that yesterday 341 people had tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives and that this includes 160 from the Greater Male' Area. HPA also said that 28 new cases were reported from the operational resorts yesterday.

This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the country since March 2020 to 69,213.

HPA had said that there are 15,621 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now and that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has now dropped to 146.

At the beginning of the month, HPA had said that 197 COVID patients had been hospitalized for further treatment.

The Agency has said that a total of 53, 392 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives and that this includes the 2,179 individuals who were declared recovered from the illness in the last 24 hours.

HPA had reported 191 COVID-19 deaths in the country and had confirmed that 30 of those deaths had come this month.

But last month remains the month with the highest COVID-19 fatalities since the pandemic hit the country's shores last year. In May a total of 88 people had succumbed to the pandemic in the Maldives.

HPA had also said that the total cases of the pandemic include 9 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
