Health Protection Agency HPA says an elderly woman had passed away in Addu City due to COVID-19 today.
The Agency confirmed via Twitter that earlier today at 10:20 am a 91-year-old Maldivian male admitted at Addu Covid Management Facility has passed away.
HPA said that this the 145th COVID-19 death in the Maldives since April 2020.
This is the 2nd COVID-19 death reported in Addu City this week with its first COVID death reported on Monday.
HPA had confirmed a total of 72 pandemic deaths in the Maldives this month, just one short of the total deaths reported in the country prior to May.
HPA had confirmed another 1004 new cases of COVID-19 in the country yesterday as the Maldives continues to fight the current wave of the global pandemic.
HPA said via Twitter that out of the 1004 new cases, 835 were reported from the Greater Male' Area with another 153 from inhabited islands and 12 from operational resorts. HPA also confirmed 4 new cases from safaris.
This takes the total number of cases reported in the country since March 2020 to 58,345 with 34,159 recoveries.
HPA had confirmed that there are 24,033 active cases in the country right now and that 289 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized for further treatment.
