Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 1,960 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the Maldives battles its worst pandemic wave since it reached the country's shores last year.
HPA said that the new cases include 1,518 cases from the Greater Male' Area where the infection is rampant. The new cases also include 431 from the inhabited islands and 11 reported from operational resorts.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the island nation to a staggering 54,365. This also means that the HPA had confirmed 24,530 new cases of COVID-19 this month alone.
HPA said that right now there are over 22,400 active cases of the illness in the country and that 294 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
The Agency confirmed that 31,812 people have recovered from the illness in the country.
Meanwhile, the pandemic death toll has now reached 123 in the Maldives as HPA reported another 3 deaths yesterday. HPA had confirmed that all three who had died yesterday had passed away at the Hulhumale Medical Facility HMF and that all three had been locals under the age of 60.
A total of 50 COVID-19 deaths had been confirmed in the country this month alone.
