Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another COVID-19 death in the Maldives today as the death toll continues to rise.
HPA said via Twitter that today at 12:02 pm a 48-year-old local man admitted at HMF has passed away.
HPA had said that this is the 121st individual to be killed in the COVID-19 pandemic in the country since April 2020 and the 48th COVID-19 death reported in the country this month alone.
Yesterday, HPA had confirmed 4 COVID-19 deaths in the country and had said that all were under treatment at Hulhumale' Medical Facility, a facility built solely to fight the pandemic last year.
This comes amid an increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives with HPA confirming 1,603 new cases on Friday.
The new cases take the total number of cases reported in the country since March 2020, to a staggering 52,405.
HPA had confirmed more than 21,000 new cases in this month alone as the country battles its worst COVID-19 wave since the pandemic reached its shores last year.
The Agency had also confirmed that although 31,197 people have recovered from the illness, there are currently 21,079 active cases of the illness in the country. HPA said that 286 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
