Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another 1,465 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Wednesday.

The Agency said that out of the 1,465 cases being reported today, 517 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6 pm of 17th May and 6 pm of 18th May.

HPA noted that the new cases include 1,213 cases from the Greater Male' Area, 244 new cases from inhabited islands, and 8 cases from operational resorts.

The new cases take the total number of cases reported in the island nation to a staggering 47,421 with 29,086 recoveries.

HPA had said that there are over 18,200 active cases of the pandemic in the country and that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has now dramatically risen to 268.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has killed 105 people in the Maldives since April 2020 and this includes more than 30 this month alone.

The country is currently battling its worst pandemic wave yet and authorities have been strengthening their measures against the pandemic.

Today, HPA had announced that it would extend the curfew currently in place in the Greater Male' Area for another week as the pandemic remained rampant in the capital city.
