Health Protection Agency HPA confirms two more COVID-19 deaths as the country's precarious healthcare system nears collapse.

HPA said via Twitter that last night a 74-year-old Maldivian man brought to IGMH/ER was declared dead at 10:00 pm.

HPA confirmed that this is the 102nd COVID-19 death in the Maldives.

The Agency also said that last night at 23:14 pm a 79-year-old Maldivian woman admitted at HMF has passed away.

This is the 103rd COVID-19 death in the Maldives.

A total of 31 individuals have died from COVID-19 in the Maldives this month alone.

Meanwhile, HPA said last night that another 1,433 people had tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives on Monday. HPA said that out of the 1,433 cases being reported today, 594 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6 pm of 16th May and 6 pm of 17th May.

HPA also said that this includes 1,294 cases from the Greater Male' Area, while 134 new cases were reported from inhabited islands and 5 new cases from operational resorts.

The new cases take the total number of COVID-19 cases reported from the Maldives to 45,956 with nearly 17,000 active cases of the illness in the Maldives right now.
