Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed two more COVID-19 deaths in the Maldives today.
HPA said via Twitter that last night at 00:14 am a 64-year-old Maldivian man admitted at DH11 has passed away and this is the 99th COVID-19 death in the Maldives.
The Agency also confirmed that earlier this morning at 04:41 am a 56-year-old local woman admitted at DH11 had died from COVID-19 taking the COVID death toll to a staggering 100.
HPA had confirmed 26 COVID-19 deaths this month alone making it by far the month with the most COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic hit the island nation in March 2020.
Meanwhile, HPA reported another 741 new cases of COVID-19 last night as the worst pandemic wave continues to wreak in the country.
HPA noted that out of the 741 cases being reported today, 515 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6 pm of 15th May and 6 pm of 16th May.
It said that 560 new cases confirmed from the Greater Male' Area while 156 new cases reported from inhabited islands. HPA also confirmed 25 new cases from operational resorts.
HPA said that this has taken the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 44,523 with nearly 16,000 active cases. Although 28,459 people have recovered from the illness, 262 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized.
