Health Protection Agency HPA has reported another two COVID-19 deaths in the Maldives as the death toll nears 100 in the island nation.
HPA said today that late last night at 02:38 am an 81-year-old Maldivian male admitted at HMF has passed away.
HPA confirmed that this is the 95th COVID-19 death in the Maldives.
The Agency also reported that earlier today at 04:30 am a 30-year-old Maldivian female admitted at HMF has passed away and that this is the 96th COVID-19 death in the Maldives.
More than 20 people have succumbed to the pandemic in the Maldives this month alone.
Meanwhile, HPA had last night confirmed another 1007 new cases of COVID-19 in the country as the numbers keep increasing in the island nation.
HPA said that out of the 1,007 cases being reported yesterday, 821 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6 pm of 14th May and 6 pm of 15th May.
The Agency said that out of the 1007 new cases reported yesterday, 793 were confirmed from the Greater Male' area and 183 new cases were reported from inhabited islands.
HPA also said that another 26 cases were reported from operational resorts while 5 cases were confirmed from safaris.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases to a staggering 43,782.
