Health Protection Agency HPA in the Maldives has confirmed 41,308 total cases of COVID-19 in the country.
HPA had last night reported another 1,216 new cases of COVID-19 in the country. HPA said that this includes 1,013 cases from the Greater Male' Area, 201 new cases of inhabited islands, 1 case from operational resorts, and 1 case from a safari.
The Agency said that while 27,428 people have recovered from the illness in the Maldives, there are 13,784 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now.
HPA had also said that 259 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
The pandemic has claimed 90 lives here in the Maldives since April 2020 and HPA had confirmed 3 deaths this morning.
This takes this month's deaths to a staggering 17.
Authorities in the Maldives have been tightening their measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the Greater Male' Area.
HPA had been imposing a curfew in the area and had recently extended the curfew hours from 04:00 pm to 04:00 am.
Other measures include temporarily stopping congregational prayers in mosques, banning dine-ins at cafes and restaurants as well shutting down schools, and closing down offices.
