Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed two more COVID-19 deaths in the Maldives today as the pandemic situation remains dire in the country.
HPA said in a tweet that earlier today a 75-year-old Maldivian female admitted at IGMH/ER was declared dead at 04:00 am.
This is the second time in two days a person rushed to IGMH/ER had passed away due to COVID-19. Yesterday, HPA had confirmed that a 51-year-old Maldivian woman brought to IGMH/ER at 04:45am was declared dead at 05:46 am.
Meanwhile, the agency said that earlier today an 85-year-old local man taken to B. Eydhafushi Atoll Hospital was declared dead at 08:30 am.
HPA had now declared both the deaths as COVID-19 deaths taking the death toll in the country to a staggering 86.
The Agency had also said that the total confirmed cases include 9 deceased positives whose cause of death might not be directly due to COVID-19.
Yesterday, the HPA had reported a record 1,091 new cases of the pandemic in the Maldives but had said that 300 cases fall under backlog while 791 cases were samples taken in the last 24 hours.
The new cases have skyrocketed the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 35,815 with more than 9,423 active cases of the pandemic in the country.
