Health Protection Agency HPA has yet again reported record-breaking COVID-19 daily figures after confirming 1,091 new cases on Sunday.

The Agency said that out of the 1,091 cases reported yesterday, 300 cases fall under backlog samples collected more than 48 hours ago. It also said that 791 cases are positive cases from samples collected with the last 24 hours.

HPA clarified that the total cases include 933 from the Greater Male' Area, 147 from inhabited islands, 6 from operational resorts, 3 from safaris, and 2 from islands under development.

The new cases have taken the total number of cases to 35,815 with 9,423 active cases across the country.

HPA had also said that currently 250 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized for further treatment.

The Agency had also said 26,299 people have since recovered from the illness while 85 people have been killed in the pandemic.

HPA had also said confirmed cases include 9 deceased positive whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.

Authorities have confirmed that the Maldives is currently fighting off a new and powerful strain of the COVID-19 virus which has proved to be more infectious.
