President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says he has ordered an intelligence audit after the attack on the Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed on the 6th of this month.
Speaking outside ADK hospital after visiting his long-time friend Nasheed, President Solih said that he had ordered a security assessment as well as an intelligence audit.
The President added that speaker Nasheed was a brave man and that he understood this from the speaker's words during today's visit.
President Solih's decision about the intelligence audit came as both the Police and the MNDF revealed that they had now received any intelligence about Thursday's attack.
Speaking to reporters a day after the attack, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said that police intelligence had not received any reports about the attempt on the Speaker's life.
He had said police intelligence work continues even amid the pandemic and that a governing body should look into why intelligence of an attack against a high-profile target was not received.
The Commissioner added that only such an inquiry can determine whether an intelligence failure resulted in the attack against the former President.
Thursday's attack wounded Nasheed and five others including members of his security details and innocent bystanders.
