Health Protection Agency HPA says travel eases given for vaccinated individuals had now been suspended amid the dramatic rise of cases across the country in the last few days.

The Agency also said that travel to inhabited islands will be restricted for purposes other than essential needs and will require approval to travel.

HPA said that people traveling from Male’ to inhabited islands will be required to observe quarantine for 10 days.

These measures came as HPA reported alarmingly high COVID numbers in the last few days including in the islands where the infection is now believed to be widespread.

HPA had confirmed a total of 1,093 cases in the country in the last two days and this includes 345 new cases from the inhabited islands.

The Agency had also reported 47 new cases from industrial islands in the last 48 hours.

The Maldives currently has more than 6000 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and more than 170 COVID patients are currently hospitalized for further treatment.
