Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism, and Investment Dan Tehan has concluded his brief trip to the Maldives which ran from 24th to 25th April.
In a statement, the Australian government said that the purpose of his trip was to discuss COVID-19 and the global economic recovery, trade and investment links, and collaboration on education, climate change, and environmental challenges.
The Minister visited the Maldives during a stop-over from his visit to Europe and the United Kingdom.
The statement also said that Tehan met with Speaker of the People's Majlis and former President Mohamed Nasheed, and participated in a roundtable with ministerial counterparts covering economic development, tourism, and higher education.
It said that Australia and Maldives share a commitment to ensuring a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
The Minister's discussions followed recent visits to the Maldives by then-US Secretary of State Pompeo and Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.
