Authorities in Kaafu Atoll Maafushi, a popular local tourism destination, have confirmed 148 COVID-19 cases on the island.
Speaking to "The Press" Manager at Maafushi Health Center Salmaan Rasheed said that an additional 64 individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 from the island yesterday.
He said that this had taken the total number of reported cases to a staggering 148 from the island.
Several sources have confirmed that many who have tested positive from Maafushi include children and elderly individuals.
The island was placed under monitoring on the 20th of this month after an individual who had presented at the island's flu clinic with COVID-like symptoms had tested positive for the fast-spreading illness. maaf
Meanwhile, Health Protection Agency HPA reported another 253 cases of COVID-19 in the country yesterday.
HPA said that this includes 147 new cases from the Greater Male' Area, 35 from inhabited islands, 31 from operational resorts, and 40 from industrial islands and islands used for other purposes.
The Agency has confirmed that this has taken the total number of cases to 27,874 with 24,309 recoveries.
HPA reported that there are currently 3,485 active cases of the pandemic in the Maldives and that the number of hospitalized COVID patients has now spiked to 123.
The global pandemic has claimed 71 lives here in the Maldives including 64 locals and 7 foreigners.
