Authorities have confirmed 13 cases of COVID-19 pandemic from Kaafu Atoll Dhoonidhoo, an island under the jurisdiction of the police.

Health Protection Agency HPA had said yesterday that 17 cases were reported from industrial islands and islands used for other purposes. It said that this includes 13 new cases of the pandemic from Dhoonidhoo.

HPA added that it was now conducting contact tracing for the reported cases.

Meanwhile, the Bar Council of the Maldives urged all defense lawyers to be cautious during visits to the island.

In a tweet, it urged all defense lawyers to follow HPA guidelines on preventative measures while traveling to Dhoonidhoo.

So far, HPA had not placed Dhoonidhoo under monitoring.

Currently, 18 islands across the country remained under monitoring after cases were reported and this includes 7 from Thaa Atoll.

They Thimarafushi, Gaadhifushi, Madifushi, Omadhoo, Kinbindhoo, Veymandoo, and Vilifushi.

Other islands under monitoring include Huraa, Himmafushi, Maafushi, Gulhi, Dhifushi from Kaafu Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru, Felivaru, Hinnavaru, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll Maamigili, Baa Eydhafushi, Alifu Alifu Bodufulhadhoo, and Mathiveri
