Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed the death of a 66-year-old man who succumbed to the COVID-19 global pandemic in the Maldives today.

HPA said via Twitter that today at 12:27 pm a man brought to IGMH/ER in an unresponsive state was declared dead at 12:35 pm.

The Agency said that this is the 67th person to die from the pandemic here in the Maldives and that this is the fifth person who succumbed to the pandemic in the country.

Two of the five deaths reported this month had been patients who died after being rushed to the hospital in an unresponsive state.

Last month, 10 people had died from COVID-19 in the Maldives.

Latest updates from HPA said that a total of 23,838 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives since March 2020. HPA had also said that 2,780 remained as active cases of the pandemic in the Maldives.

HPA had also said that 91 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment and that 20,984 people have recovered from the illness in the country.
