Authorities have placed Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo under monitoring after several individuals from the island tested positive for COVID-19.
Health Protection Agency HPA had said that 5 individuals had tested positive for COVID-19 from Thinadhoo and that they were tested for the pandemic after they presented with cold-like symptoms.
HPA confirmed that the southern island is now under monitoring and contact tracing and case investigation is currently underway on the island.
Earlier today, HPA had place Lhaviyani Hinnavaru under monitoring after an individual from the island had tested positive for COVID-19. HPA had said that the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 had presented with cold-like symptoms at the flu clinic and that the island is currently under monitoring.
HPA added that contact tracing and case investigation currently underway on the island.
Concern is mounting with more than 12 islands across the country now under HPA monitoring following the discovery of COVID-19 cases on the islands.
HPA had reported 150 new cases of COVID-19 from the islands in the last five days and a massive spread of the pandemic into the Atolls appears highly likely.
