Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed another COVID-19 in the Maldives as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc in the Island Nation.
HPA said that last night at 07: 17 pm, a 79-year-old local woman admitted at DH11 has passed away.
HPA confirmed that this is the 65th person to die from the pandemic in the Maldives. This is the third individual to succumb to the illness here in the Maldives this month after 10 died from COVID-19 last month.
With this new death, a total of 58 locals and 7 foreigners have now died in the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives since April of last year.
HPA had also said that the total COVID cases include 7 deceased positives whose cause of death is not directly due to COVID-19.
The pandemic continues to spread widely in the country as HPA reported 186 new cases of the illness in the country on Thursday.
This includes 151 confirmed from the Greater Male' Area, 14 reported from inhabited islands, 20 cases from operational resorts, and 1 case from a safari.
HPA said these new cases take the total COVID-19 cases reported since March 2020 to 22,147.
The Agency also highlighted that there are 2,433 active cases of the pandemic in the country right now and that 121 COVID patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
HPA confirmed the recovery of 19,642 individuals who had contracted the fast-spreading illness in the country.
