President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has this evening departed on an official visit to the State of Qatar and a state visit to the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

The President's Office said that First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level delegation of the Maldives’ government are accompanying the President on this trip.

It said that the main objective of the President’s visit to Qatar is to further develop bilateral bonds following the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries earlier this year.

The President's Office said that subsequently, President Solih, First Lady Fazna, and the Maldivian delegation are scheduled to visit Bangladesh, on the 17th March 2021.

It said that in Bangladesh, President Solih will attend the official ceremony of the 'Birth Centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman'.

The President's Office said that Solih is also scheduled to hold a one-to-one call with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and to meet other senior officials of the Bangladeshi government to hold discussions on ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

As part of the State Visit, the President will also meet the Maldivian community residing in Bangladesh.

The President, First Lady, and the Maldivian delegation are scheduled to conclude both visits and return to the Maldives on 20th March 2021.
