A brawl between two expatriate workers aboard a fishing vessel has resulted in the death of one of the foreigners involved.
Police said that it received the report about a fight between two foreigners aboard a fishing vessel around 03:50 am in the morning and that one of the men had been injured after he was attacked with a sharp object.
Police had said that the migrant worker had been rushed to the nearest hospital in Thaa Atoll Veymandoo to treat his injuries.
But the Police confirmed today that the man had succumbed to his fatal injuries around 11:59 am.
Police had also said that it had arrested a 42-year-old Bangladeshi man in relation to the case today and that it was further investigating the incident.
Such incidents among the migrant community have now become common in the Maldives.
In 2019, a Bangladeshi man working on a sea vessel from Lhaimagu was murdered by three members of the crew, also from Bangladesh.
The three had killed their fellow Bangladeshi and had sunk his body after weighing it down.
Police had later discovered his skeletal remains at the bottom of the sea and his murderers had played out how they had killed the man during the police investigation.
