Tourism Ministry says that 30 percent of the frontline staff working in the Tourism Sector has now been given the 1st dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In a tweet, the Ministry said that since it began administering the vaccine to frontline workers in the sector last month, it has now given the first dose of the vaccine to 8,800 people currently working in the industry.

The Ministry also said that with this achievement the Maldives is on track to be among the first countries to give COVID19 vaccination opportunity to all working in the tourism sector.

Health Protection Agency HPA had said yesterday that a total of 138,827 people have now been given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. It said that this includes 84,891 from the Greater Male' Area and 53,936 from the Atolls.

HPA had said that there are 8 vaccination centers and 2 mobile teams in the Greater Male' Area while authorities have set up 169 vaccination centers in the Atolls.

In the Greater Male' Area, HPA has been giving the COVID-19 vaccine to all above 18 years of age and has urged all to get the vaccine as soon as they can to help curb the spread of the rampant COVID-19 pandemic.
