President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today met the Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar who is on a -day visit to the Maldives.

The President's Office said during the meeting, the two had discussed strengthening the ties between the two countries.

It also said that development assistance agreements signed during the visit highlight this close relationship.

In a tweet after the meeting, President Solih said that he conveyed thanks to the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India for the generous assistance announced during the Minister’s visit including an additional 100,000 doses of Covishied vaccine.

During his short visit to the Maldives, Minister Jaishankar had also met Speaker of the Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed earlier today.

After the meeting, the Indian Minister had tweeted saying that he was delighted to meet the Speaker who is always full of ideas and energy.

Dr. Jaishankar had said that speaker Nashid had alluded that building democracy was the big project in Maldives and that India is a valuable development assistance partner.

In his second visit to the Maldives as the External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. Jaishankar held meetings with Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defence, Finance, Economic Development, Sports, and National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
