Police have confirmed that the body of the teenager who was killed in a gang fight that erupted in Gaafu Alifu Maamendhoo earlier this month had now been sent to India for postmortem.

17-year-old Ahmed Udhayu had died in a nasty fight between two rival groups in the southern island on the 8th of this month. His older brother had also been injured in the brawl and sustained several injuries during the incident.

Police said today that the body of the teenager had been sent to India for postmortem to determine the exact cause of his death. Police also said that his postmortem would be carried out at Medical College Hospital in Trivandrum, India.

Police had said before that it had arrested 3 individuals in relation to the case a few hours after the incident and had reported later on that it had arrested two more individuals the next day.

Police have yet to announce the reason for the fatal brawl between the gangs but Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed had said that the Serious Organised Crime Dept. of Crime Investigation Command has taken over the investigation of the incident.
