President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his Cabinet Ministers have today discussed the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, following the recent spike in the number of positive cases.
The President's Office said at the meeting held virtually, deliberations were held on the government’s measures to further curb the virus’s spread.
Speaking with the Cabinet, President Solih urged them to ensure their respective offices and agencies strictly adhere to the new steps introduced to control the increase of cases.
The Cabinet also deliberated on ways to ensure the uninterrupted provision of essential services through the steps.
This comes after the Health Protection Agency HPA announced a host of new restrictive measures to further curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives.
HPA had said that it would impose a vehicular ban in the Greater Male' Area starting tomorrow from 08:30 pm to 04:30 am every day.
It had also extended curfew hours from 11:00 pm to 04:30 am currently imposed in the Greater Male' Area of Male', Villimale, and Hulhumale'.
Authorities have said that the current spike in the infection rate of the COVID-19 illness would be due to the new variant of the COVID-causing virus and that Maldives could also experiencing the effects of these variants.
