Maldives Meteorological Services MET Office has issued a white alert from Noonu Atoll to Laamu Atoll as the weather in major parts of the country is expected to worsen today.
In its alert, MET said between 1:15 pm to 18:00 pm, heavy rain is expected in these parts of the country.
It also said that thunderstorms with gusts of 40 mph are expected in the area between this time.
Earlier today, it had issued a white alert from Haa Alifu Atoll to Addu City and had said that heavy rains and thunderstorms with powerful gusts were expected across the country between 09:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Meanwhile, Maldives National Defense Force MNDF warned seafarers to be mindful of the difficult conditions amid worsening weather.
Its warning came, as 2 speed boats collided last night off the coast off Ithaafushi resort. MNDF Coast Guard had confirmed that 4 people sustained injuries in the accident when a sea ambulance collided with a launch traveling from M. Muli to Male'.
