Maldives Meteorological Services Met Office says fairly widespread rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over the country in the next 48 hours.

In a statement, it said the change in the weather is due to the influence of the persisting trough over the Maldives region.

The Met Office said that strong winds and rough seas are likely expected over the area between Haa Alifu and Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.

It advised all to be cautious of the upcoming severe weather conditions, especially seafarers in central and northern atolls.

The Met Office also reminded residents living in the flood-prone islands to take precautionary measures to avoid damages.

Earlier today, the Met Office had issued a white alert from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atolls between 10:30 am to 16:00 pm.

In its alert, the Met Office had said that heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusts of 40 mph are expected in the region.
