Health Protection Agency HPA says a 57-year-old man under treatment for COVID-19 has succumbed to the illness here in the Maldives today.
In a tweet, HPA confirmed that a 57-year-old local man admitted at Hulhumale Medical Facility ICU has passed away today at around 02:24 pm in the afternoon.
HPA said that this is the 42nd person to die from COVID-19 in the Maldives since April and the 4th person to die from the illness in the country this month.
The 42 people who have succumbed to the illness in the country include 35 locals and 7 foreigners.
Yesterday, HPA said that the number of reported cases of COVID-19 in the country has now reached 12,122 with 27 new cases reported on Friday.
HPA said that there are 820 active cases of COVID-19 in the country and that 243 individuals are currently in isolation. HPA added that 52 COVID-19 patients remained hospitalized for further treatment.
A total of 11,244 people has recovered from COVID-19 in the Maldives.
