Health Protection Agency HPA has confirmed that the number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has now surpassed 11,800 tonight.

In a tweet, HPA said 26 more individuals tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives today and that this includes 21 locals and five foreigners.

HPA also said that 21 of the new cases were reported from the Greater Male’ Area while 5 cases were confirmed from the islands.

It said that this takes the total COVID-19 cases reported in the island nation to a staggering 11,822.

HPA also said that 10,991 people have now recovered from the illness as the downward trend of the infection continues in the Maldives.

HPA said there 786 active cases of COVID-19 across the country and 185 of those were currently under isolation. It also said that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has dropped to 52.

The Agency noted that 18 inhabited islands across the country have 15 active cases of COVID-19 while 30 resorts in the country are also hosting active cases of the pandemic. This includes 46 tourists and 127 staff.

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 38 lives here in the Maldives which includes 32 locals and 6 foreigners.
