Maldives Transport and Contracting Company MTCC says it has completed 84 percent of the Haa Alifu Hoarafushi airport project.

MTCC said that 99 percent of the runway has been constructed while 75 percent of the terminal building has now been finished. The company also said that the construction of the fire building is well underway and that 50 percent of the work has been completed.

MTCC said on Twitter that its CEO Adam Azim has inspected the progress of Ha. Hoarafushi airport development project today.

The company had said before that it was working to complete the whole project before the 11th of next month.

Once completed the airport is expected to have a 1200m long runway with an 8635 sqm apron and taxiway. MTCC had reclaimed 842,200 cubic meters of sea in order to develop the airport.

The airport in Hoarafushi would fulfill the dream of many living on the island and across the Haa Alifu Atoll as the nearest airport is the one in Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo.
